Txt (Me):“I can’t wear one more drab winter outfit or I’m going to lose my mind.”
Txt (My girlfriend): “You literally text me this same note every year around this time… None of us want to wear big chunky knit sweaters, black slacks, with salt-stained boots anymore…”
Txt (Me): “Why are you calling pants- slacks? Did we fall back to the 60’s this winter and I just didn’t notice?’
Txt (My gf): “Yes.”
It’s that time again. Still very much winter, but daydreams of fresh Spring weather are beginning to appear as the days start to get slushier and the sun hangs on for a little longer. In the next few weeks we will start to see the dreaded ‘Season Pushers,’ out and about as they head to work, yoga or a night on the town.
Now – before you pass any judgement, let me start off by saying these people mean well. They have been longing for warmer weather much like myself for months now and if the temp reaches a clean 6+ degrees with no wind, it can be rather tempting to put those dirty black boots away and slip on your favourite Spring pump. Here’s the long and the short… DON’T DO IT! You will be committing the number one Maritime fashion sin of season pushing with this act, and I promise that your winter clothes mixed with your spring shoes and bags is not a good look. Be patient, wait until the snow has truly melted away and the birds are back singing in the tree-tops.
If your wardrobe decisions are really starting to feel desperate – head to Winners or Aritzia for a mid-winter shop to get a few pieces at good price-points that will see you through until late April/early May. #stoptheseasonpushing
