“Good design is like a refrigerator, when it works no one notices but when it doesn’t it sure stinks.” – Irene Au

In this captivating and feminine oasis, every design element harmoniously complements the next. However, the true focal point is undeniably the tiled backdrop. The subtle yet impactful tile split demonstrates a thoughtful blend of color, texture, and pattern, showcasing the Stil James mantra that thoughtful design doesn’t need to be complicated. For our bathroom in particular, we went with a 70 / 30 split green to white. Various techniques can achieve this tile split effect, each offering unique and breathtaking results. Below, explore some stunning examples that are sure to inspire and make you weak in the knees!

It’s the multitude of contrasts that takes the cake
The Maritimes has some great tile shops. If you’re looking for local and affordable, Centura and Ritchie’s have a wonderful and often cost-effective selection. And don’t sleep on Home Depot or any of the other big box stores, they have some incredible gems online, you often just have to have a little patience and time to dig through for the perfect one. Specialty shops with love (along with a price tag to go with it) are Geon Tile & Clay Tile. For our viral bathroom project, the tile was sourced from Dominion Tile in Moncton, NB – one of the hidden gems of the Maritimes when it comes to design.
The second major game-changer is the unexpected wallpaper selection, seamlessly blending the pink vanity (hello, Benjamin Moore Sea Froth!) with the green and white tiles. Who doesn’t swoon over a beautifully wallpapered bathroom? But I know, many of you worry about moisture and humidity. Fear not! Vinyl wallpaper is your secret weapon for those dying to wallpaper their bathroom. For a treasure trove of unique options, Etsy is your go-to. A designer tip: pay attention to scale. Identify how large or small the print is and think about where it’ll be placed. The good news? Etsy has many sellers, like this one, who offer customization from different colour palettes to scale.
According to Victoria Armour, the creative brain behind this project, the chandelier over the tub steals the show. “Since the wet room was so big, we obsessed over the green and white stacked tile- finding the balance between something that didn’t overwhelm the space but still packed a punch. The chandelier was literally a last minute find and an instant ‘yes’ from my clients, solidifying this earthy floral aesthetic.” We adore the clever mix of brass and wicker, but it’s the unique shapes of the chosen fixtures that truly steal the show and elevate the space, ultimately creating a sophisticated oasis. If the subtle brass and wicker combo speaks to your soul, these lighting options are your perfect match!

If you’re interested in smaller scale décor, during the summer months is the perfect opportunity to hit up Anthropologie or Home Sense for those fun and unique finds!
Renovations might look like a breeze on social media, but they demand a lot of thought and planning before the first hammer even swings. Each space has its own quirks, and Victoria had her fair share. “The most challenging part of this project was figuring out how to get my clients everything they wanted in the space. They were determined to get a walk-in shower and full size tub in a room that originally only had a tiny walk-in shower. Because one side of the bathroom was running along an exterior wall and we had to take the existing plumbing into consideration, I had to work with the contractor to get really creative about the layout. We ended up blowing out a mudroom closet on the other side of the bathroom and losing the water closet where the toilet originally sat, stealing that square footage to give our clients the bathroom of their dreams.”

Sure, picking out a few pretty products might seem like a cakewalk, but the real magic lies in crafting a space that’s as functional as it is fabulous for you and your loved ones.
