Where Design Meets the Kitchen.
Millwork is often one of the most expensive line items in your budget. You do it once and live with it every day.
We built Loran because we kept watching the same thing happen. You fall for a design, the cabinetry gets handed from designer to showroom to shop to installer, and a little is lost at every hand. So we stopped handing it off. The layout, the cabinetry, the stone, the lighting, and the flow are drawn together from the start, by the same team. The kitchen that shows up is the one you fell for.
You don’t have to use Loran, we’ll design around whatever you choose. Loran is what happens when how it’s built, how you live, and how well we know you all come together, instead of one decision at a time. Most clients don’t expect the cabinetry to be what changes everything. It usually is.
“I never thought I’d care this much about cabinetry. I now can’t imagine our kitchen without Loran. We get so many compliments. Loran exceeded every expectation and brought our vision to life in the most impressive way.” — Jessi G., Homeowner

More Than a Name.
Loran is Victoria’s daughter’s middle name. James is Natalie’s daughter’s middle name. The work has been personal from day one.
We design kitchens while living in them. The weekday mornings, the Saturday-night hosting, the cleanup after. We know where the flow breaks, where the counter runs out, where a plain Tuesday gets harder than it needs to be. That shows up in every decision, the proportions, the storage, the unglamorous details that make a day smoother. You stop designing for the photograph and start designing for the people, for how the kitchen gets used at 7am when everything’s happening at once.
And it’s built to last that long. The quality is the kind you feel years in, the doors still sitting flush, the drawers still running smooth. These kitchens get better the more they’re lived in.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you only provide millwork for kitchens, or full homes as well?
Our primary focus is kitchens because that’s where design, function, and daily life intersect most. Kitchens are the heart of the home, and the place where a thoughtful, integrated approach makes the biggest impact.
That said, for full-home projects designed through Stil James, millwork can extend beyond the kitchen to other key areas where it adds clarity and cohesion- think pantries, mudrooms, laundry rooms, built-ins, and select custom pieces. In every case, millwork is developed as part of a larger design system, not as standalone elements.
By keeping our focus tight, we’re able to deliver a smoother process, clearer decisions, and a higher level of quality throughout the home, without adding unnecessary complexity. If you’re planning a full-home project, we’ll guide you on where millwork makes the most sense and where simplicity serves you better.
Do you sell Loran on its own?
We don’t, and that’s on purpose. Loran was built to live inside the design, not beside it. A kitchen planned as one thing, layout, proportion, lighting, materials, cabinetry, and flow developed together, comes out differently than one assembled from parts. Keeping cabinetry in-house means fewer handoffs and nothing watered down between vendors. It was never about selling cabinetry. It’s about handing you the kitchen you fell for.
Can I work with my own contractor for my kitchen renovation?
Yes. Your own contractor, an installer only, or our trusted partners running the full scope, whatever suits you. Our job stays the same, to make sure the kitchen gets built the way it was designed. We coordinate with everyone involved so the details and the timeline hold to the original vision, whichever path you choose.
Are your kitchens fully custom?
Custom in all the ways that matter, without the complexity that usually comes with it. Anyone can build a cabinet to your measurements. The difference is that ours is decided alongside everything around it, the layout, the light, the stone, so the cabinetry isn’t a box you pick at the end. It’s part of one plan. Designed and built in-house, which means fewer handoffs, fewer delays, and a design that stays intact start to finish.
Do I have to use Loran if I want to work with Stil James?
You don’t have to, but for many clients, it’s what makes the experience feel easy. Loran allows us to keep the design, cabinetry, and execution fully aligned from the start, which saves time, reduces back-and-forth, and keeps the original vision intact.
Clients are always welcome to explore other options, but most choose Loran because it simplifies the process and delivers the level of quality and cohesion they’re looking for. Time and ease are a luxury, and that’s exactly what this approach is designed to give you.
What makes a Loran kitchen different from a cabinet showroom?
A showroom sells you cabinets. We design you a thoughtfully completed room. A showroom hands you dozens of isolated choices, then leaves you coordinating designers, suppliers, and installers, which is where the delays and the diluted design creep in. Because we keep it in-house, the cabinetry gets decided with everything around it. We’ve taken space from a powder room to give a chef the island she’d given up on. We’ve removed a dead office so a dining room a client kept avoiding finally worked. A showroom never makes those calls, because the cabinets are all they’re selling.
What should I budget for a custom kitchen?
Most Stil James kitchens start around $100,000, design, cabinetry, materials, and construction together. You can spend less by piecing it across vendors, but that’s usually how you end up with a kitchen that feels disjointed, in how it looks, how it works, or how it ages. What you’re investing in is cohesion, a kitchen designed as one thing, which ages better and feels right long after the dust settles. It’s the room you’ll live in every day for the next twenty years, and that’s where the value shows up. We start with how you live and where it’s worth investing, then guide you from there.
