“Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right.” – Oprah Winfrey
Happy New Year! Can you believe it’s already January 2025? One minute we’re indulging in spiked eggnog, stuffing stockings, and frantically wrapping that last-minute gift for the teacher we completely forgot (sorry, Ms. Thompson!), and the next, we’re back to the beat of our regular routines and an avalanche of info from social media, Google, and maybe even your mother—everyone’s got the latest trends to share!
Never fear this article will be your lifeboat, ready to navigate the interior design trends of 2025! Here’s the cherry on top: we’ll also showcase how we at Stil James—and some of our fabulous clients—are not just keeping up but striding ahead of the curve. Get ready to be inspired as we break down these trends with highlights from our most beloved projects!
1 – Limewash
Lime..what? Limewash has been around for centuries and can be dated back to ancient Egypt and Greece. It was used to coat buildings to provide a durable and weather resistant barrier, the enhanced aesthetic appeal wasn’t lost on them or us! It’s now a hot 2025 trend whether you’re looking for a minimalistic approach or to add a layer of texture, limewash paint is a great alternative to explore!

2 – Extend that Kitchen
There is a strong desire for large pantries or back kitchens. This design option is two-fold; it offers a functional purpose to help maintain clutter from daily life but also, we’re seeing a rise in homeowners feeling more courageous! These tucked away spaces provide the opportunity to explore colour, print or different materials like wood or tile.

3 – Furniture as Art
Comfortability will always be number one on the wish list when it comes to furniture. However, more and more people are willing to embrace a bolder approach to furniture. This can be seen through enhanced architectural shapes in tables and curved or sculpted elements in bed frames, accent chairs and sofas.

We love how our clients went all in on not just shape but colour palette too!
4 – Statement Stone
Bold veining, unexpected colouring, vibrant patterns… an interesting and unique stone can have the influence to enhance any space! It also has the versatility to be used on fireplaces, countertops, backsplashes and flooring. There are so many different combinations. Depending on how you choose to use it, it can either ground the space or take it over the top –the design choice is yours!

Love how the depth in the backsplash doesn’t take away from the unique shape of the range hood – they’re a statement together!
5- Colour Drenching
You may have heard this circling around, if you’re thinking of colour-drenching the answer is, yes… always yes! Whether you’re going for dark and moody or a neutral minimalistic pallet, please don’t wait for us to tell you… just do it! The equation is simple you paint your walls, ceiling, baseboards, trim all the same colour!

6 – Discreet Tech
Technology isn’t going anywhere; I mean we carry mini laptops in our pockets! We know tech makes the world go round so the best bet is to build it into your design… discreetly of course!

7 – Print Mixing
We understand this trend might not be for everyone. If you’ve just accepted that printed wallpaper is here to stay then you can skip this one, we aren’t trying to scare you! Combining patterns creates a visual that’s meant to feel cohesive versus chaotic and when done right, it packs a punch!

The key is maintaining balance with a consistent colour scheme

Another tip: let the larger scale pattern become the main focal point and the smaller pattern become the accent, doing it in a neutral can also help!

8 – Artful Lighting
Lighting isn’t just for function anymore, it’s a key design element – sometimes the key! Whether you’re going delicate or daring, your lighting should say something!

Lights, Camera, Action!

Tip: Always consider dimmable lighting so you can set the right ambiance for any given room
